Because let's face it, I basically work, get paid and spend my salary on food, because this country sucks and it's full of delicious rather cheap food everywhere. I'm not stronger than this temptation.
So before we start let me tell you that while I'll be talking about this with all cronological precision allowed by the ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff that time is for any Whovian worth the title, any exact date will be refered to as "the other day".
Here we go.
Starting with a selfie in my work uniform, so you can see I get to wear a nice uniform. That makes me look like I'm one of the kids because I'm tiny. Whatever.
Nowadays my uniform has been updated with a heat-tech t-shirt underdeath, a jumper on top and two pairs of socks, but those are unimportant details.
So now that you remember how I look, I can start telling you about my recent adventures, which are quite a few. I always get too lazy to write a blog entry, and the more I have to write the laziest I get, and then I have to translate and I get too lazy to translate, and the more I have to tell the longer the post is and the lazier I get to translate, Also my posts are so much funnier in Spanish dammit.
The other day I went with Camille and a colleague to have some beers at some bar that specializes in beer and so has a bunch of weird ones. It was a bit far from home and we had the brilliant idea of riding our bikes there, which mostly meant we also had to ride them back home, late and after beers. Bad plan. Anyway, we tried coffee beer (yucky), blueberries and apple beer and a couple more I think. I declare that the fact that my memory is not clear on this point has nothing to do with the amount of beer consumed.
Dark one is coffee, middle one possibly apple and the last one maybe blueberries.
In case you didn't know it yet, karaokes are GREAT. You can rent rooms for very cheap, and they're private just for you and your friends, so you don't have to sing in front of strangers who might run away covering their bleeding ears the moment you finish the first verse. Not only they are cheap (some, obviously) but you can rent them by the hour, and you can order food and drinks once inside, though most offer a free non alcoholic drink anyway. Each room has a table, couches, a hugeass TV to display lyrics and videos, mics and tambourines and an interface to select the songs you want to sing.
That's obviously not part of the decoration, but my super yummy Halloween cake.
There was food, obviously, but also stands with activities and music performances. I stopped for all of two seconds to look at the Japanese Sign Language stand and I was dragged into learning a few greetings and common words, courtesy of a middle aged lady who did her best to mix hand signs, Japanese and mispronounced English to teach me. There were also stands offering conversation in languages such as Portuguese or English. And birds to pet, because why not.
I ate Brazilian coxinhas and Chinese steamed buns, because everything was around 400 yens tops.
I also found a Spanish restaurant that was offering samples of cider from my home. Okay, tiny samples, but hey, better than nothing. I told the lady holding the tray I was from there, and she made really big round eyes at me and pointed to the cook inside the stand because it turned out he was Spanish too! It's a pity everything in the actual restaurant is damn expensive though.
I was there! I have proof!
While going home I stopped to buy Shounen Jump in a conbini, because it's been too many years reading manga not to try this once. They're cheap, because you throw them away afterwards and just buy the volumes of whatever series of you like, since these magazines carry the chapters of every series it produces and it's actually printed in low quality presumably recycled paper. I was strangely excited to buy it anyway.
Other adventures include the Foreigner Artists Exhibition, in which foreigner artists residing in Japan get a chance to show their art... All of it rather amateur and focused on photography of the kind most people would be able to take if they took the time to stop and try. It was fun to meet the artists though.
Camille's friends came for the weekend, and they asked me if I'd like to have yakiniku with them, so we all went out to have dinner! I'm sure most of you know but yakiniku it's like a bbq in which you order the meat, and they bring it raw and you cook it over a grill in your table. A lot of places offer 食べ放題 and 飲み放題, basically all you can eat/drink. For X time you can order everything you want from X menu, which doesn't include only meat: veggies, salad and rice are also common.
I also ate cheese curry at CoCo Curry the other day, and it was glorious. I love Coco Curry, because it's kind of fast food in the cheap and fast sense, but also delicious and it doesn't feel as unhealthy as McDonalds.
I'm sure by know you'll have already realized my life revolves around food, so I'll let you know I've discovered the existence of matcha oreo, and they're the best thing that's happened to me in a while. It's a pity they're only sold in packages of two, big as they are. I NEED MORE.
Also do you remember what I told you about fruits size? This is an apple in my hand.
On other news, I sometimes Skype with my family! Mostly with Mateo & Cia, Cia including my rabbit who must as she tries to pretend indifference, misses me tons.
And last but not least, the other day I went to a calligraphy class! More than a class it was an event organized by some group aiming to connect Japanese people with foreigner and exchange cultural knowledge, but it was cheap and it was fun! Admire my artwork.
New Year cards, because 2015 will be the sheep year according to the Chinese Zodiac.
First one says kani nabe, meaning crab nabe. Second one says Kyoto, and it's half orange because after you finished writing the teacher would come and correct your strokes with orange paint that you could trace over again to get the hang of it.
That's mostly all, but I'm going to leave you a couple of pictures of my neighborhood exploring before I leave to make dinner, because it's getting late.
